Post-operational Diet Treatment
After sleeve gastrectomy, a diet is prepared by a specialized dietician. Diet is planned personally.

 

WHAT KIND OF A DIET IS REQUIRED AFTER THE OPERATION?

After sleeve gastrectomy, a diet is prepared by a specialized dietician. Diet is planned personally. During the first 2 months, the patient goes from liquid food to solid food gradually. The diet starts with liquids just after the operation. From the first stage on, vitamin and calcium support starts. When the patient starts walking, he/she can start eating liquid foods without any particles. These liquid foods should not be fatty and high calory foods. Absorbance is not affected by sleeve gastrectomy, your stomach can digest the food you consume completely. The fat and calory intake of the food you will consume should be calculated in order not to put on weight again.

DURING THE FIRST 2 MONTHS LIQUIDS SHOULD BE CONSUMED

The patient eats only liquids without any particles during the first week and starts eating mashed foods after the 2. week. The determining factors are the weight and the diet before the operation. Since the feeling of hunger is suppressed, the patient takes the necessary calory with low amount of food and does not feel any hunger. Afterwards, the solid foods are started gradually and the patient has a normal diet.

HEALTHY DIET SHOULD BE A HABIT

The diet is rearranged by the dietician and a healthy diet is planned. It is recommended to consume low calory and sugar free liquids. Creamy drinks with high carbohydrate content should be avoided. After sleeve gastrectomy, it is not recommended to consume liquids together with meals. Water should be drunken at least 30 minutes after the meals. When a diet with solid foods is started, the food should be chewed sufficiently and consumed slowly. During the first few weeks, it is very important to consume the solid foods in a soft or even in a mashed form.

As the quantity of food consumed will decrease after sleeve gastrectomy, vitamin and mineral support may be required. Therefore, daily vitamin and mineral support is applied after the operation. A diet including foods with high nutritional value and low quantity of fat is prepared. The favourite vegetables, fruits and other foods of the patient are included in this diet. A diet that the patient will happily have and eat healtily is planned under the supervision of the dietician.
